Delaware Township Asked For Fire Police Vehicle
By Heather Adams
Pike County Dispatch - Thursday, October 2, 2014
DINGMANS FERRY- At the Board of Supervisors meeting Wednesday, Sept. 24, Delaware Township’s Fire Police Capt. Dennis Stankovich asked the supervisors to consider the purchase of a vehicle from the now-defunct ALS.
Stankovich outlined the need for a dedicated vehicle for township traffic control, for which he has been using his personal vehicle and fuel. He said he has spoken with former ALS President Mary Lou Corbett, and there are three vehicles belonging to ALS which will be sold “at a nominal price.”
The vehicle he thinks is most appropriate already has lights and sirens, and following PA law, would only be accessible to the captain and lieutenant.
There is currently no lettering on the vehicle, but it will easily hold stands, signs, tape, vest, flares, and other needed equipment. The Supervisors agreed to investigate further.
Upcoming Celebrations
The township had no plans to cancel their Harvest Festival, which took place Sept. 27. Supervisor Tom Ryan said that they had anticipated “less than normal attendance” due to the manhunt for trooper shooting suspect Eric Frein, but that they had 57 vendors registered for the event.
The Township trunk or treat scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct 25 at Akenac Park with a rain date of Sunday, Oct. 26.
Volunteers will be needed for The Dickens Holiday celebration, which will take place 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 13 at Akenac Park. Planning is ongoing, and current activities slated for the event include a wreath trimming contest as well as a gingerbread contest. The 18-foot tree has been picked out for planting at the Park, and Ryan says that all the apples trees will be lit as well. Anyone interested in helping out with the event can contact the Township office at 570-828-2347.

Sidewalk lights and winterization of the water system were authorized for Akenac Park. There will be eight lights installed at the front of the park, to aid pedestrians walking from the parking lot to the bridge. The cost for the lights is $5,222.80, with electrician and installation costs still to be determined. The winterization of the water system was approved for $1,862.54. The Supervisors also approved the purchase of a 24-inch engraved wood sign from Correctional Industries for $353.
The following meetings were cancelled, with no substitute times scheduled: the Board of Supervisors Budget meeting at 8:00 a.m. Oct. 18 and the Board of Supervisors Regular meetings scheduled for Nov. 26 and Dec. 24.
